Food Processing Equipment Rental
In October, 2016, under the Empowering Family Health Project facilitated by Growing North Cariboo Society (GNC) food processing and preservation equipment was “gifted” to 5 rural communities in the North Cariboo, with Bouchie Lake being one of them. The equipment was funded under a grant offered by Northern Health. The other communities were Kersley, Ten Mile Lake / Parkland, Wells, and Barlow Creek.
The goal of GNC was to ensure that the equipment was as accessible as possible to community members with as few barriers as possible. For Bouchie Lake, it was decided to place the equipment in the Bouchie Lake Country Store as it was open 7 days / week and is centrally located.
The BLCS’s goal is to support this initiative to the best of their ability. This is done by promoting the equipment, providing visible space, administering its usage, and to ensure that the equipment is returned in the same condition that it is lent out. While there is no borrowing fee, the BLCS charges a nominal $5.00 administration fee to cover credit / debit charges, staff time, and general administration.
The equipment is available to borrow by anyone residing in the Bouchie Lake / Milburn communities. A security deposit equal to approximately 50% of the value of the equipment is required at the time of borrowing.. This deposit is returned in full should the equipment be returned “as is” and by the agreed upon time. To borrow the equipment, a “Equipment Borrowing Form” must be completed in full and the deposit paid. A review of the Policy is also recommended prior to borrowing.
